Oh, we provide the same open source drivers as Linux - due to GPL issues,
most Linux distros won't bundle any version, current or legacy, of the
closed drivers like nvidia's - so we're providing a better driver than Linux
for a subset of nvidia users, it's just that subset has changed to no longer
include your old laptop.   So you are in the subset, with the vast majority
of Linux distro users, who have to install using the open source driver and
then web download the right closed source driver.
