I notice this once a while in gnome-terminal. Changing the Input Method
in the apps context menu to X Input Method fixes it, among a few other
annoyances, too (for instance, X Input Method allows easy typing on
tildes and backticks, by hitting the key twice, instead of
Tilde/Backtick + space key).

I suppose it's the same issue here?
