In my opinion it is one of the critical discussions to get one and for all clear how the Indiana distro is structured:
Is it something like a monolithic approach where you get "only" Gnome and all people working for and around Indiana are working with and for Gnome on OpSol
OR
Is Indiana only the most important packages needed for OpSol running where every user can choose between several WindowManagers/Destop Environments.
To clear up these differences: There is a diference when you have to download a 700MB ISO, then install this system to your HD which automatically install Gnome, then uninstall Gnome to download another 300 to 500MB to install KDE for OpSol
OR
Where you download a 300MB ISO, which install the kernel plus important packages - like you can do in Debian with the "debootstrap" (http://packages.debian.org/stable/admin/debootstrap //
http://www.us.debian.org/releases/stable/i386/apds03.html.en )
tool - then your installer lets you choose between a 400MB Gnome and a 400MB KDE.
The first example is something like 1GB for downloads the second is something like 700MB.
Also in my opinion Belenix is not Indiana. Because if Indiana should be a "streamlined" Belenix Mr Murdock would have announced that the Indiana project is going to build on and around of Belenix. Indiana is build independently from Belenix.
AND
There is something other: In my feeling from all discussions here on this list, I think that in the end the community doesn't have a voice in the
design , architecting and implementation of Indiana. It is just a feeling and I can be very wrong,
but for example the decision to go the Gnome way and not even think about a "dynamic system" where the user can choose between his environments - learning from all the (K/X/Edu)Ubuntu experiences for (the profit of ) Indiana - is in my feeling a very top down decision making. A decision from the halls of Sun for the community.
But this is then not a community process and therefore not a community distro.
With the Belenix is not Indiana I meant that you can work how hard you want for a perfect KDE on OpSol but if Indiana is "monolithic" ON/Net+somethings+Gnome the user have then to choose between two totally different distros (Belenix or Indiana).
