[indiana-discuss] snv_109 boots but hangs after login prompt

A couple of weeks have passed and I've now attempted to update from b108 to b110 with the same effect. I've done a bit more checking and it is very similar to a problem recently reported by a person trying to update from b106 to b108. It appears to be that the system is hanging when the Xorg server is starting. If you get rid of the grub lines which obscure the boot sequence, the system boots to the login prompt and then a few seconds later hangs. [You can enter a few keystrokes before it hangs and keystokes cease echoing.]
I have tried playing games with xorg.conf. Without one it hangs. With one generated using "Xorg -configure" under b108 it hangs. If you disable gdm and come up without X11 then Xorg -configure hangs. Pretty much everything hangs. The Xorg log only prints the first couple of lines before the hang occurs. I'm not really getting much useful information as to where the problem is occurring.
I don't know how to track this down further.
