Not sure if that network card is supported so I'll skip that and address the second question.
You should be able to install openoffice with 
pfexec pkg install openoffice
There are additional pkgs available if needed for different languages.  You can try
pfexec pkg search -r openoffice
which should give you some direction for which other packages you may want.

Of course, if you can't get the network working, the above may not be real helpful.
