In addition to the wpi0/wpi1 confusion, you might also have been running into
CR 6804774/bugzilla 6331 [http://defect.opensolaris.org/bz/show_bug.cgi?id=6331.
The bugs.opensolaris.org database doesn't seem to have the info yet; the CR was
just filed yesterday, so hopefully the info will show up soon].
This was a bug introduced in build 106, where nwamd would exit shortly after
starting due to a permissions problem; after a few cycles of this, smf would
declare a problem and put the service into maintenance. It was unfortunately
a timing problem that happens quite often with opensolaris, but was never
seen on nevada.
A fix was integrated into nevada today, so it will be in build 109.
