[indiana-discuss] Trouble upgrading from build 98

All,

I have a working Indiana install using snv_98 as the dom0 of an xvm system.
I have run into problems trying to upgrade to 101b and again in trying to upgrade
to 105. After doing an image-update, booting the new environment proceeds until
I reach the console login prompt. At that point, the system seems to go off in the weeds.
I can still type, but it will not prompt me for a password. I must at this point do a hard
reset as waiting for 15+ minutes does not change the behavior. Booting back into 98,
doing a beadm mount, and looking at the logs (/var/adm/log/message, /var/log/syslog)
does not reveal anything interesting. I can boot in single user mode without difficulty,
even starting X from single user mode if desired so I'm largely ruling out having an nvidia
video system (GeForce 8200). I've tried starting the networking
services from single user mode, ssh-ing in from my laptop and running top while
causing the machine to continue out of single user mode. This also was non-informative to me
based on what top listed. It was often top itself, though hald-probe-stor was at the top when the
system finally quit responding, top was #2, slapd was #3, followed by python at #4. Before top
completely stopped updating, it was giving sporadic updates.

Trying to boot the system in non-xvm mode, either from my upgrades or from the 101b live cd
usually works, but not always. It will sometimes give a kernel failure and reboot. My 98 has
been very stable for me.

Any suggestions/debug hints to get my system up to current?

Brian
