[indiana-discuss] screech when login screen appears

I can't say what the screech is (does audio work correctly once logged 
in?), but if you're using gdm, try adding:

    SoundOnLogin=false

to the [greeter] section of /etc/X11/gdm/custom.conf (or create a 
[greeter] section with the above line if you don't already have one).

My previous laptop (Ferrari 4000) had an ear-splitting console beep, and 
silencing gdm had to be done fairly quickly, hence the above.
