It doesn't necessarily mean they're becoming unusable overall, but their
search lifetime is limited. The version of the depot software apparently
running on those machines is old enough that the current client of
search doesn't always speak to it correctly. Specifically, if a search
on those servers returns no results, instead of getting an answer of
"nothing found" you'll receive the above answer. We're also in the
process of EOL'ing search v0, which is the only search those servers
know how to speak. When that happens (sometime between now and the next
release), you will no longer be able to search on those repos.

We encourage all people running a repo to keep their server software up
to date with the release, but we can't force repo's out of our control
to actually update.
