multiple levels of filtering, being able to have a filter match a
message, perform an action and continue processing.

I have all bug reports that arrive in my inbox get moved to a particular
folder. P1 bugs get coloured red, and run
"audioplay /usr/demo/SOUND/sounds/bark.au" and then get matched by the
more general bug filter. For urgent stuff, you could have it run
a /usr/bin/notify-send, grabbing your attention even more.

I checked Thunderbird just now, and couldn't see how to get it even run
an external command when a filter matches.
