[indiana-discuss] Zone DNS mysteries

I just got through setting up a new zone with a static IP address on my
local subnet. My dladm show-link looks like:
LINK CLASS MTU STATE OVER
e1000g0 phys 1500 up --
e1000g1 phys 1500 up --
bond0 aggr 1500 up e1000g0 e1000g1
myzone0 vnic 1500 up bond0
During configuration, I tried twice to give it my ISP's nameservers (not
on my local subnet) and [ Mystery #1: ] each time it rejected the
network (I think it said the nameserver was unreachable).
To get past that step, I tried setting the first nameserver to the
address of a router on my local subnet (which forwards DNS requests to
my ISP's nameservers), and [ mystery #2: ] it worked!
I logged into my zone and [ mystery #3: ] could not traceroute outside
my local subnet.
I deleted my router's address from the zone's /etc/resolv.conf and [
mystery #4: ] traceroute to yahoo.com worked!
Can anyone clear these behaviors up for me? Thanks...
Baffled-ly y'rs,
