Ok, that should help.

Google tells me that at-spi-registryd is "GNOME Assistive
Tech Service Provider Interface" and it probably is running
when certain gnome desktop assistive technology features
are enabled in preferences.

I don't have it enabled; I don't see an active at-spi-registryd
process on my boxes.  That should explain why my attempts
to reproduce this problem have failed so far.


Do you have anything from the "assistive technology" area
enabled for that laptop that would result in at-spi-registryd
starting?
