Are you sure it's the active root dataset, as opposed to an inactive
boot environment?
The opensolaris bug id is 5000
http://defect.opensolaris.org/bz/show_bug.cgi?id=5000
& Cindy's exactly right with the bugster id. You don't need to mount
and unmount the root dataset, just one of the inactive root datasets for
the other boot environments, eg.
# zfs set mountpoint=/tmp/a rpool/ROOT/opensolaris-1
# zfs mount rpool/ROOT/opensolaris-1
# zfs set mountpoint=/ rpool/ROOT/opensolaris-1
eventually, doing a simple
# zfs snapshot -r rpool at snap
will succeed, at which point you can safely "svcadm clear" all of the
snapshots services that are in maintenance.
