[indiana-discuss] OpenSolaris on really old Sun hardware?

I have read that there is a bug in the original UltraSparc 1 that makes 64-bit mode behave badly.  And I know that recent versions of Solaris on Sparc have dropped 32-bit mode completely.

But Solaris 9 seems to work fine on the Ultra 1 in 64-bit mode.

So I'm curious about the different in Solaris 9 vs. 10 and later that makes 9 work and 10 not work.

As I said in my original post: this isn't a critical issue for me.  Mostly, I'm just trying to learn about the Solaris OS and its relation to the Sparc architecture.
