[indiana-discuss] Consideration for servers

Hi,

There are a few impediments to installation and configuration of
OpenSolaris in a way that's suitable for servers.
What plans (or RFEs) are people aware of for addressing these, if any?

The biggest issue that comes to mind is that NWAM is not really suitable
for servers, yet configuring a system statically
(network/physical:default) is painful and requires many steps.

Is it true that sys-unconfig/sysid-config are being removed? Even today
sysid-config has issues since it requires booting the system in
text-mode, which is not the default. But something like these utilities
are important for functions like factory-prep of a server with
OpenSolaris before shipment, or creation of a "Golden Copy" of a VM with
OpenSolaris for sharing. It's probably not the right solution for
on-site configuration of a system on demand, which should be
accomplished without requiring a reboot, so it seems having two separate
solutions would be most appropriate.

Thanks,
   Bob
