Indeed you are right. The following bug:

http://bugs.sun.com/view_bug.do?bug_id=6592141

is code from gmp-4.2.1, and since the bug was not fixed, I assumed it still would not work. However it appears that the corresponding code disappeared in gmp-4.2.2.
