I had a similar experience. One thing I'd like to ask you to check/verify:

Did you do a complete re-login after adding the "Software Installation" 
profile and before you ran kbe-install?
I *think* that that may be at the bottom of this type of message we've seen.

Also: where did you acquire the KBE packages from?
