I'm not doing kernel debugging here and as far as I can tell
don't have access to dtrace (I avoid knowing root passwords because
it limits the calamities I can be blamed for:)

so a truss capture of the misbehaving SIGTTOU message would
be appreciated because it has evaded all sorts of instrumentation
on our side
