At last !!
Finally, I got my wireless adapter working (Intel Pro/Wireless 2200BG) on my
Sony Vaio VGN with an Intel Celeron procesor.
What did I do ? I just moved on to the new release of Solaris 10,
release 06/2006 (I had installed release 03/2005) picked up from the
very comfortable Sun.com <http://sun.com/> site. Tried with no luck iwi
drivers both vers. 0.5 & 0.4, those gave me a "mac_alloc / mac_free
undefined symbol" error, so next tried iwi ver. 0.3 and what a ... it worked
!!
Omar,
After the installation of the iwi driver maybe you forgot to add the
appropiate entries to the files:
/boot/solaris/devicedb/master
/etc/driver_aliases
the first one expects an entry like this:
pci8086,dev_id pci8086,dev_id net pci none "a descriptive text is here like
the wireless adapter's name"
replace "dev_id" with the device id number of your wireless adapter, you can
check this using the prtconf -vD command on Solaris,
or on WinXP, how I checked it :),
Start/Programs/Accesories/System Tools/System Info. Then on the System Info
window, under Components/Network/Adapter,
at the right panel, search for your wireless adapter's name and see what is
the device id PNP value. You'll see something like this:
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_4220&SUBSYS..., well, DEV_4220 implies a dev_id=4220 ^_^
In /etc/driver_aliases chek if you have an entry like this: iwi
"pci8086,dev_id" (replace dev_id with the appropiate device id number)
Next, do a touch /reconfigure; init 6 (this is in order that the
kernel learn that there is a new device called iwi sneaking around)
Hope this could be helpfully.
Ceci,
Thank you for your support.
Read you when I read you. Cheers.
