How does it fail, exactly?
Does it report any error messages?
Does it hang during boot? Does it hang before GRUB
is loaded? Or does it hang when GRUB loads the
Solaris kernel?

I don't think that would a solution. (BIOS?) Problems like that
can happen on 64-bit machines, too.
