Thanks for the reply Garret.

Indeed I did compare the contents of "/a/etc/vfstab" against
what format(1M) reported the /dev/(r)dsk path of the O/S disk
to be while booted into failsafe (ramdisk) mode. In my case, the
path remained unchanged before and after the move of the USB
disk from one port to another (c1t0d0).
