Atheros driver supports both 11b & 11g. Even the 11b AP isn't in scan 
result,
could you connect to it?

This may be related to route/DNS settting. "traceroute" may be used here
to see if correct interface(ath0) and router are used. Also please
    * check IP address of the DNS server with "dhcpinfo -i ath0 6"
    * check /etc/resolve.conf file and add the DNS server there.
Then try again.
