Here is a further update on my experience...

After messing around with network/physical:nwam and finding something keeps taking the ipw0 down and then bringing it back up and then eventually just taking it down and leaving it down i decided to go back to the network/physical:default service.  I then manually connect the wifi and still find that after some time the connection drops out even though ifconfig -a reports back an IP address.

I also find that network performance on both the iprb0 and ipw0 connects is very slow - > 4 hours to copy 2 GB.  So presumably something is not quite right.

Any suggestions as to what type of performance I should expect and how to check if the connections are set up correctly ?
