Matt,
what have you have tried the card out in? Was the laptop running
something else before?
Typically the system will do that, after a successful insertion. Also
the tools that were a part of Linux, and probably the BSD family will
do that.
Also please be aware that some chipsets are most definitely not
supported by Solaris yet.
