[ogb-discuss] OGB Elections: Current Community Groups

One of the confusions we regularly have, and are sure to have again as
we approach the next elections, is the difference between the OpenSolaris.org
website structure (which lists a bunch of "Communities" and their "leaders",
who in reality are just members with editing privileges) and the
OpenSolaris governance structure (which defines Community Groups and their
Core Contributors). Since there is no official list I've seen of the
Community Groups, I've tried to put one together - if we agree this is
the list, we should post it somewhere for the record/easy reference.

Right now, based on the official list on poll.opensolaris.org, these are
the official set of Community Groups who can name Core Contributors to
have voting rights in the election:

						Core Contributors
Academic and Research 3
Advocacy Community Group 96
Approachability 4
Architecture Process and Tools 9
BrandZ 4
DTrace 5
Desktop 10
Device Drivers 7
Documentation 7
Fault Management 6
HA Clusters 12
Installation and Packaging 10
Internationalization and Localization 18
Laptop 11
Logical Domains 4
Modular Debugger (MDB) 5
NFS 3
Networking 8
OS/Net (ON) 48
Printing 4
Performance 8
PowerPC 4
Security 10
Service Management Facility (smf(5)) 8
Storage 10
Systems Administration Community Group 4
Testing 9
Tools 22
X Window System 3
Xen 15
ZFS 14
Zones 7

All of the communities have at least 3 Core Contributors still, so have
not gone defunct for lack of membership.

>From a quick scan of the webpages for those communities, it seems all but one
are meeting the other prime requirement - that of having a public discussion
forum. The sole exception is the OS/Net community, which will need to set up
a forum ASAP in order to have a place to discuss any further Core Contributor
grants for it.

These Community Groups have been recently approved by the OGB, but are not
yet listed on http://www.opensolaris.org/os/communities/ or
poll.opensolaris.org - presumably that will be resolved before the election:
	Virtual Client	(approved 11/07/08)
	Website (approved 12/12/07)

These "Communities" listed on http://www.opensolaris.org/os/communities/
have no Core Contributors, and thus under the Constitution, are not
Community Groups, but simply areas set aside for discussion of certain
topics:
	Appliances
	Chinese Users
	Databases
	Games on OpenSolaris
	HPC Developer
	Observability
	Solaris Volume Manager
	Unix File Systems (UFS)

We should probably clean them up at some point, unless proposals are brought
forward to make them actual Community Groups. ("Solaris Volume Manager" and
"Unix File System" would need to be renamed to avoid trademarks, but are
probably better handled by moving their pages and lists into the Storage
community.)

(The OGB is also listed on the communities page, as it has an area set aside
for hosting discussions and documents, but is not a Community Group, though
it can grant Core Contributor status.)
