It's not that simple. It's actually far more complex. OpenSolaris is a
project at Sun that is /emerging/ into the open. Code went first. Then
some governance. Then some projects. Engineers. Then a gate or two. More
code. Distros formed. Etc. The main ON gate is next. Etc. Just how would
a foundation make any of that go any faster or be any less genuine? I
don't know all the details of putting together a multi-million dollar
foundation operation to support the global development and marketing of
a system the size of OpenSolaris, but I bet it would add some complexity
to our current situation.
