I have to agree with Keith and others that consolidations such as JDS 
and X *do* have use to end-users.  Not just ON.

For example, consider someone using Solaris (the whole WOS) who likes 
the whole thing, but wants to make one or two specific modifications to 
JDS apps.  Sure, they could download the original GNOME sources, but 
they'd have a much harder time making sure that it behaved the same as 
JDS except for their one or two edits.  Similarly for someone who wants 
to run a slightly-hacked X server but still the rest of the Sun 
customizations.
