Ideally membership should keep rolling forward from the date of the  
last act of contribution, with the expiry clock starting to tick from  
that point. If it were possible to arrange for that in the web app it  
would be splendid; we should then make the timeout shorter, probably 1  
year.

Of course, that all relies on having a programmer implementing it, and  
what Glynn has written is a good baseline in the absence of that.
