-help did exist long before GNU, it has been first introduced by the UNIX clone
UNOS in 1982. At that time, the long option aware option parser getargs() has
been introduced and _all_ avalable utilities have been modified to support
-help.
-version looks like a GNU invention from around 1995 or even later.
I did alredy propose here to enhance all Solaris utilities to support the two
options for convenience.
