It supports utf-8, but does not support latin-1 anymore on solaris (the developers don't seem to accept that ISO-8859-1 can also be written ISO8859-1). It is simple enough to correct, and more a bug than a matter for ARC discussion, but I just want to make sure it does not get integrated in (open)solaris as a utf8-only program.
Unrelated: pine is known to be shipped heavily patched by various distributions (including suse), for instance to add maildir support. Is it proposed to stick to the upstream distribution (except for a few simple bug and configuration fixes) or are we likely to end up including plenty of third party patches?
