Exactly as Peter wrote. We cannot expect anything else beside 5.5 in
version 5. And we can be quite confident with community support for this
branch as they are still supporting 4.1 and 3.3.
From this point of view choosing version 4.0 was rather unfortunate.
For the same reason I would be afraid of choosing now version 6.0 (as
it's being developed).
