A cynic might wonder if the complaints might not arise precisely because
the process is open (which, you see, means anyone can join the party to
rain on the parade), and then that cynic might wonder if a closed
process, or no definite process wouldn't be better.  I did just that and
then decided that I still prefer having an ARC :)

I think mud flinging is to be expected, and we need to learn to deal
with it, quite possibly by simply ignoring it (it's what I've decided to
do).  A weekly or monthly automated posting of an FAQ might suffice to
counteract any otherwise unanswered FUD.

Other open organizations (e.g., the IETF) go so far as to ban mailing
list postings by trouble makers.  The OpenSolaris community does not,
and that is a real luxury.  It'd be a shame if it had to come to that.
