The one thing about logadm that might be a problem for some
is something you mentioned: logadm.conf contains the time stamp
info.  The problem is if one uses some tool (cfengine, puppetc, etc)
to push out updated versions of a file that's a combined config file
and time stamp or status file like that.

If the alternative is as functional and doesn't have that problem,
it might be useful not only for cross-platform familiarity, but also
for those with the requirement to push out config files like that.
