Agreed.

Not agreed.  The system is _huge_ and _diverse_.  I sure as heck don't
want to snag a useless-to-me copy of the GNOME, Java, and X sources
every time I try to 'hg pull onnv-clone'.

Different repositories allows:

  - Different code management schemes.

  - Different build mechanisms and rules.

  - Different integration processes.

  - Different delivery schedules.

  - Indirect validation and enforcement of the interface stability
    rules.

In fact, maintaining that system is part of the point of the ARC, and
why it was founded in the first place.  Dumping it all in one big pot
would be a giant step backwards, at least for me.

Pursue it as an OpenSolaris project if you want to demonstrate the
advantages, but I'm not seeing them just based on the comparison to
the (fairly different) BSD system.  (Which, by the way, uses "Ports"
to manage separate consolidations ...)
