Just installed Solaris 10u3 on the same machine.  From a precursory glance, I am pleasd to report that none of the afore-described localization problems (including those associated with running StarOffice8) seemed to exist.  Whether this is an unfortunate regression that would inevitably occur duing a alpha/beta stage, however, remains to be seen.
