To my mind, the question would be does anything non-interactive use
root's shell from the passwd database?  If not, I don't see that it would
matter, unless someone is depending on /.profile entries or the like, which
is their problem.

But offhand, I don't know the answer to that question; it would at least
mean checking rshd, rexecd, rexd, sshd, and cron; who knows what else
I didn't think of...

Even if it were absolutely safe, in a mostly Solaris shop, I'd tend to
recommend against it, because esp. newly arrived Solaris admins might make
more mistakes dealing with something not out-of-the-box.  In a mixed shop
where the same people were doing both Linux and Solaris, I don't see
that as such an issue; indeed, having both use the same shell for root
might reduce the number of mistakes made.
