[osol-mktg] OpenSolaris Developers Conf

Seems to me there are four audiences:

Audience 1 - Core OpenSolaris developers
Audience 2 - Technical folk who are building on Solaris - OEMs, ISVs,
a few key corporates with deep code needs
Audience 3 - Solaris deployers
Audience 4 - Open Source meta-community members observing OpenSolaris

I suggest we co-locate separate events for these audiences.

* A "Friends of Tonic" event for Audience 1, invite only, maybe a few
from Audience 4. Maybe hold this over the preceding weekend, like "FOO
Camp"? The objective of FOT would be to strengthen OpenSolaris core
community relationships and provide a context to get code coded now &
in the future. The agenda for this event would be devised by the
attendees on-site from content they have brought with them.
* A "Solaris Technical Conference" for Audience 2, 2 days maybe Mon &
Tue, mainly tutorial format with open-mic plenaries. This event would
have a program committee devising content, I suspect Audience 1 would
provide many of the speakers. The objective would be to strengthen
driver and app support for Solaris and in the process grow the
OpenSolaris community.
* A "Solaris Summit" for Audience 3, 1 day with keynotes or maybe part
of a larger SunW event. The objective would be to provide a marketing
venue for platforms based on OpenSolaris.

By holding separate events we can avoid content dilution; by
co-locating we can reduce costs and create critical mass.

S.
