Both OSCon (Portland) and LinuxWorld (SF) are drawing close. I think
both of these events are critical, perhaps the most important of this
year, to marketing OpenSolaris. Could we start getting details on how
these events will be handled? I'd be curious to know who will be at
these events, who and where they will be presenting (booth, BoF,
presentation, etc), and what equipment/code/tools/etc they will be using.
I guess I'm out for OSCon, but I am planning on taking the days for
LinuxWorld off and I'm going to be spreading the OpenSolaris good news
there, I'd much rather coordinate and work with the Sun presence than go
renegade. If possible I'd like to help staff the booth, showing off
both OpenSolaris and Ultra20. (Assuming I could get my hands on an
Ultra20 to prep for the show, the one I ordered won't arrive untill the
week of the show.) My working with the shows staff will help continue
the push that Sun is leveraging the community, which could be a press
vehicle itself.
It seems like Ferrari's and Ultra20's should be the OpenSolaris systems
of choice going forward for these types of events... in such way we can
show not only Solaris10, not only OpenSolaris, not only Sun Studio 10,
not only Sun hardware, not only Opteron, but the level of
interoperablity with Linux/OpenBSD/etc as well.
If there are going to be any non-OpenSolaris folks presenting (what many
of us call "booth bimbos") it'd be good for us to know so we can
anticipate any miscommunication.
Oh, and avalible swag-age (tshirts, but particularly CD/DVDs) that will
be distributioned would be good to be aware of as well. I'd love it if
we could hand a DVD with the OpenSolaris source and recent Solaris
Express to every person attending!
Details? Any other non-Sun folks on attending these events with an
interest in helping out?
benr.
