Hi, Glynn.

For my part, I'd like to plan an OpenSolaris kernel developer summit.
Just the key kernel engineers at Sun and the key developers in the
community. Once a year, maybe. Extremely low key and focusing only on
the people who are actually doing the work. That's the critical part.
I'll be circulating some ideas shortly.

We've talked some about user groups (which I'm getting involved with now
as well), and developer conferences, etc. In fact, I started a dev
conference discussion within the pilot program, but there wasn't much
interest at that time ... I couldn't get resources ... it was just too
early, that's all. In my mind there will be multiple levels of
conferences for the OpenSolaris community to participate in.

For OpenSolaris, I'm thinking that over time we'll have something like
this: (1) general user groups (which are forming now), (2) a kernel
summit (which I'd like to do), (3) some sort of general developer
conference (I have no clue on this one), (4) Sun conferences (JavaOne,
NetWork, etc ... Sun runs these and we'll be a part of them), and (5)
industry conferences (that we'll participate in as well, OSCON, Apache,
USENIX, etc).

That's my thinking at this point. I know marketing has some plans and
ideas as well.

Jim
