Awesome. From my experience in dealing with the GNOME community stuff,
the worst thing you can do is turn things into a tradeshow. That's
totally not the direction where we want to be, and it's nice to see your
line of thinking with this too.

So there's a good example that I always refer to, and that's Linux Conf
Australia - they've managed to keep the developer vibe over the last 6
years. It's an awesomely fun conference, very technical, and a perfect
opportunity for different groups to sync up over the course of 5 days.
>From my perspective, I think the user groups should be primarily focused
on being able to provide booths at their local conferences, and
submitting talks/papers/tutorials for them, along with their regular
meetings in whichever town they are in. There's lots of conferences out
there, and the best way to spread our message is from the people who are
using the technology.
But yeah, completely agree with everything you've said. Rocking ;)
