Hi,
It's a great question. You'd probabaly want to sell a PC with an
OpenSolaris distribution pre-installed, and there are now four: Nexenta,
BeleniX, SchilliX and Solaris. Under the CDDL, the charging (or not)
for the distribution is down to that distribution, not Sun.
A Solaris license is free, although there is a requirement to register a
system if the license is for commercial use. I'm checking with the
business group at Sun to see if they actually have a programme to help
people who want to sell a PC with Solaris pre-installed. I don't know
of any restrictions on doing so (I will check). Simply selling a system
with Solaris on is, of course, different to being an accredited Sun partner.
However, this shouldn't become a Solaris marketing discussion:
I copy Moinak, Joerg and Alex for BeleniX, SchilliX and Nexenta
respectively to see if they wish to comment on plans for those
distributions.
regards
Patrick
