Well, I am not that good in organisation so my comments about
improvements may not be that useful, however I can quickly recognise
that many things went seriously wrong on the german fairs. Just some
examples:
1. LinuxWorld/2004 in Frankfurt/Main:
- Sun hired a couple of people running around on the show with
computers in backpacks and monitors above their head and speakers with
much noise. Result: Many people felt very offended by these groups and
Sun received even complaints by the people running the fair.
Fortunately the Redhat booth was even noisier so not many complained
about this detail - but in general many visitors disapproved this
practice as *inhumane* - not even the people in the penguin costume
were treated that bad.
- Sun only showed Linux products citing that this is a Linux show.
Surprisingly... Microsoft had a giant booth and all flavours of BSD
were present, too. But no Solaris/OpenSolaris were present on the
show.
2. Linuxtag/2005 in Karsruhe:
Giant Sun booth called "Email garden" - but no one showing Sun
products except on one machine and a SunRay server which was mainly
defunct and rebooting all over the time. At the last day a big poster
showed the text "If you have problem with <image of the sun, yellow
circle with face and rays>-Products - come to <redhat-logo> for
working solutions". Well... people were making jokes all over the time
about the stability of the email garden - any that's not the thing how
things should happen.
And there were no Solaris/OpenSolaris-related booths but all BSD
flavors were present, Microsoft had it's booth and even HP was showing
HP/UX.
(Linuxtag/2004 were much better as Sun presented own products on SPARC
servers and had competent people there and even the SunRays were
working - but other flaws occurred during the show... )
The same list of problems can be expanded into the past...
