Right - I think that's the thing : there's a huge stylistic difference
going on.
If you put blogs at the far left end of a scale, and columns from
(insert name of respected publication) at the other end of the scale,
then these articles would appear just slightly to the left of those.
They're almost *too* professional, and sort of come across as
press-releases. (though I did like the profiles, I have to say)
Something more grass-rootsy (is that a word?) would be better though, I
think.
Of course, actually asking for those type of articles, is trying to
appoint a "Chief Fun Officer" who goes and schedules weekly "fun"
sessions : it'll just sound contrived, and people won't enjoy it.

Yep, I agree. Getting a call out in the field (perhaps via mail to
opensolaris-discuss ?) to actually ask for content would be a good first
step.
In the meantime, I'll continue working on this list of things that I
think would be useful to help folks help market OpenSolaris, and see
what you guys think.
