All,
SIGCSE is the Special Interest Group for Computer Science Education.
SIGCSE 2006 will be held from the 2nd-4th March at the Americas Hilton
Hotel, Houston, Texas. OpenSolaris will have a considerable presence at
SIGCSE.
Sun is a platinum sponsor of the event, and we will have plenty going
on. OpenSolaris and NetBeans will be sharing booths on the showroom
floor (booths P&Q), and we will be promoting an instructor guide for
incorporating OpenSolaris into a computer science curriculum,
"Introduction to Operating Systems: A Hands-On Approach Using the
OpenSolaris Project".
On Thursday we will hold a panel session, "Solaris and the open source
revolution: opening curriculum." The session will take place at 4pm in
room 335B. Currently the panel will feature Sean Smith, Assistant
Professor of Computer Science at Dartmouth University, Sun engineers
Russ Blaine and Eric Lowe, and Michelle Olson, author of the OpenSolaris
instructor guide.
On Friday at 8pm there will be a reception for OpenSolaris, featuring
presentations and demonstrations of the technology, a light buffet and a
prize draw. Invitations for the reception will be available at the Sun
booth - so if you'd like to attend, please see us at the booth.
We can still add people to the panel - please get in touch if you'd be
interested, and if you are at the event, please come and say hello!
regards
Patrick and Teresa
