There are a lot of good ideas here and frankly I'm split because of all
the choice. Perhaps we could have 3 ads that rotate? That way things
don't get dull.
My thoughts are that we need something gripping. Many of the tags below
pump OpenSolaris but don't speak to its evolution. These are all great
ideas, but I think that for the 1 year mark we need to push not what we
are but what we have been and will continue to be. Plus, we want
something gripping and less marketeer sounding, so I like the "C-O-D-E"
ideas since it'll appeal to the larger geek crowd. But the '10 M lines,
5 distros, 13,000+ members, XX projects, 1 year [So many ways to
participate]' appeals most to me, namely because of the "So many ways to
participate", but then backing that up with fact. It helps show how
established we are and that this isn't some fly-by-night operation
that'll fizzle out. If people aren't coming to OpenSolaris.org its easy
for them to think "Ah, that thing'll die out, its probly idle." Thats
closed minded "in my little world" thinking... we want to break people
free from that, so establishing our record is a good thing and whats
needed more than any snazzy tagline.
BTW, I _really_ like "DTrace, Zones, SMF, ZFS, BrandZ ... [How many
one-year-olds can do that?]" but i reject it because those are traits of
Solaris 10, not just OpenSolaris, so it could be misleading for folks.
As much as possible I try to keep Solaris and OpenSolaris separate so as
not to confuse users/customers.
