My concern is that by promoting code so much, we turn off the people who
might be active in other ways.  To paraphrase a perl adage from my days
with perl: there's more than one way to contribute.

The two biggest problems I see with using usernames is:
  * too many people approve; how to select whose names get used
  * may look like just random characters

What about community names or project names?
