Well .. I think that GNOME ( JDS ) will auto scale or stretch an image but
I'd rather just provide the correct maximum resolution and then use
imagemagick to scale downwards with a Gaussian sample.  This generally makes
for really smooth images scaled downwards.  ( not so good upwards )
