Hi Matthew,

Codecs in the distro I'm using, Solaris Express, are with the companion 
disc which is an arrangement I can't stand - a DVD download just to get 
mp3s working.

Have you been following the discussion about Project Indiana on 
opensolaris-discuss?  The idea is to create an OpenSolaris distribution 
and there are a few areas of work, including installation and packaging. 
  It seems to me that your proposal could/should be included within the 
discussion on packaging, no?
