OpenSolaris, where are we and where are we going ? Here are some scattered thoughts on it. We have a whole bunch of breakout rooms, so the total of 4 on the schedule was just a random number to show the possibilities of what we could do. I think we're pretty flexible, outside the keynote style sessions on Saturday morning. On Saturday I'd like to use as much of the day for face to face larger group sessions - encourages everyone to put a face to a name, and to set the scene for more intimate sessions on Sunday. However, we'd probably need some pretty strong moderators, and some very well defined topics if larger groups were involved. I think there's a few of us that are keen to make Sunday into an entirely FooCamp style day, where during the previous day we put up a whole bunch of posters for people to fill in for various topics that are critical to releasing in Spring that they would like to lead the discussion for or have a developer hands on session eg. Getting boot splash/happy face. Ideally the people who would want to lead those sessions would have a fairly fleshed out spec to propose. Hi, let me resend this: --> 2 days seem to be a short time, in special for people who need to travel from far away. I cannot yet see an agenda. Is there one? As this is the first such meeting, we need to use this to get known with people we did never see before. So there should be a target date for a general meeting that offers as much time as needed (depending on the number of attendees). I would also like to see a general discussion on the future way of cooperation. There should be time to do actual project related work. <-- It seems to have missed the list as I cannot post to the list (although I am a list-member). Yes, it's a short amount of time to pack a lot in. However, that shouldn't stop you from trying to see if you can organize a set of meetings outside those 2 days, or try and attend/organize an additional SVOSUG for a bunch of new people in town to attend. > I cannot yet see an agenda. Is there one? Not yet, though you can suggest topics for discussion - http://www.genunix.org/wiki/index.php/OpenSolaris_Summit Hopefully we'll have some set topics for Saturday, but Sunday will mostly be an unconference, and we'll probably spend breakfast coming up with a list of breakouts for people to attend. > As this is the first such meeting, we need to use this to get known with people > we did never see before. Hopefully a lot of that will happen over a drinks reception on Friday night, and during breakfast on Saturday morning. The schedule hasn't been set in stone, but maybe Ian can lead an introduction session at 10am on Saturday morning, for people to introduce themselves, say what they do, and thoughts of what they hope to get out of the summit. > I would also like to see a general discussion on the future way of cooperation. > > There should be time to do actual project related work. That's very much up to each person to choose. I personally prefer using the opportunity for a discussion and planning session, to maximize the time I have with other people. If I spent it staring out my laptop, I could be anywhere else. Glynn
