The answer, fortunately, is yes! I'm sorry we have been so light on details up to this point. Mainly it's because we haven't been able to nail down a venue. Ideally, this will happen early next week. Look for an announcement very soon. If you would like to request sponsorship, please email me immediately at jesse.silver at sun.com. I am putting together a list and will be awarding the sponsorships by the end of March, so as to leave enough time for travel planning. Thanks for your patience, and I can't wait for May! -Jesse From sks at cvok.co.uk Fri Mar 14 15:35:09 2008 From: sks at cvok.co.uk (Sean Sprague) Date: Fri, 14 Mar 2008 22:35:09 +0000 Subject: [opensolaris-summit] [osol-discuss] OpenSolaris Developer Summit May '08 In-Reply-To: <47DAE6F4.7090902@sun.com> References: <47DAE6F4.7090902@sun.com> Message-ID: <47DAFD9D.4010205@cvok.co.uk> Jesse, hope that you are well. > Hi All- > > Many of you have been asking whether the OpenSolaris Developer Summit > May '08 is actually happening. I do know that OSDevCon 2008 will be held June 25th - 27th in Prague, and am personally working (loosely-coupled) with Max Bruning on his very interesting ZFS "Where's My Data?" presentation; which I expect to be excellent - given Max's track record thus far. I guess that your Summit is taking place in the US; and I guess from that, that attendance will be good (expansive audience); but for us folks on the other side of the Pond and unable to venture towards you folks; we are very happy indeed that we have a similar event upcoming. Success to both events! Regards... Sean. The second OpenSolaris Developer Summit will be held at the Baskin School of Engineering at the University of California, Santa Cruz on the 3rd and 4th May 2008. Sponsored by Sun Microsystems, the summit is not a traditional conference or exhibition, but rather a small, in-person, collaborative working session to plan the next release of OpenSolaris. -- We have a large room block at the Scott's Valley Hilton for $179/night. You may begin booking rooms as soon as I send out the code word. This should come Friday. -- Please sign up, if you haven't already, for our Summit alias, opensolaris-summit at opensolaris.org . -- The registration wiki will be refreshed and ready by the end of business today. -- Please plan to arrive Friday evening. We will be hosting a dinner/reception in the lobby. -- Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be served Saturday. Breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack will be served Sunday. Also, for locals driving in, please note we are planning for a very special off-site program Saturday evening. Your attendance is highly encouraged (and believe me, you'll have a blast). The program will end before 10pm. -- If you plan to attend CommunityOne and/or JavaOne, we will provide transportation up to San Francisco on Sunday soon after the last session. -- Finally, if you would like travel sponsorship but have yet to request it, please do so immediately. E-mail your info and your reasons for requesting sponsorship to jesse.silver at sun.com. I will be awarding the funds March 28. And of course, please email me with any questions you might have. The old summit page is now at - http://www.genunix.org/wiki/index.php/OpenSolaris_Summit07 (which you obviously shouldn't use anymore - so don't get confused).
